Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common type of skin cancer. While it rarely spreads to other parts of the body, it can cause significant tissue damage and disfigurement if left untreated. Surgical excision is the most common and effective treatment for BCC.
Basal Cell Carcinoma treatment (BCC)
The procedure involves the removal of the cancerous growth along with a surrounding margin of normal skin to ensure all cancer cells have been removed. Depending on the size and location of the tumour, the surgeon may use local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia.
After removing the cancerous growth, the wound is closed with stitches or allowed to heal on its own, depending on the size and location of the excision. In most cases, the procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis.
While surgical excision is highly effective, it can leave a scar. The size and location of the scar depend on the size and location of the excision. In some cases, reconstructive surgery may be necessary to repair tissue damage or disfigurement resulting from the excision. This can be with a skin graft or a local skin flap.
It’s important to note that early detection and treatment of BCC can help prevent tissue damage and disfigurement. Regular skin examinations by a skin specialist such as Mr Kumar and the use of sunscreen and protective clothing can also help reduce the risk of developing BCC.
Mohs
Mr Kumar has teamed up with Mohs surgeons. Here the Mohs is performed by a dermatologist and the subsequent plastic surgery reconstruction will be performed by Mr Kumar on the same day.
