We can now perform breast reduction surgery at our new clinic in Sevenoaks.
Breast reduction, also called reduction mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to decrease breast size and refine their shape for a more balanced and proportionate appearance.
Women with overly large breasts often experience both physical and emotional discomfort, such as back and neck pain, shoulder indentations from bra straps, skin irritation, difficulty with physical activity, and feelings of self-consciousness. Breast reduction surgery can help relieve these symptoms, enhance the overall shape and proportion of the breasts, and significantly improve self-confidence.
The Procedure
The procedure is carried out under general anaesthesia and typically takes around 3 hours to complete. During surgery, precise incisions are made to remove excess breast tissue, skin, and fat, while reshaping the remaining tissue to create smaller, firmer, and more proportionate breasts. The nipple and areola are often repositioned to achieve a natural and balanced appearance.
Following the procedure, patients may experience temporary swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed pain relief and supportive compression garments. Most individuals are able to return to work and light daily activities within 1 to 2 weeks, though strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for approximately 6 weeks to allow proper healing.
Breast reduction surgery can provide long-term benefits, including improved posture, a reduced risk of skin irritation or infection, and greater comfort during physical activities. However, as with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks, such as bleeding, infection, scarring, changes in nipple sensation, and, in some cases, reduced ability to breastfeed.
Before proceeding with breast reduction, you will have a thorough consultation to discuss the potential risks and benefits and to ensure the procedure aligns with your goals and expectations. When carefully planned and performed, breast reduction can be a transformative experience, offering lasting relief and enhanced quality of life for women with overly large breasts.
