A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the abdominal area while tightening the underlying muscles, resulting in a firmer, smoother, and more contoured abdominal profile.

This procedure is often chosen by individuals who have experienced significant weight loss, multiple pregnancies, or have stubborn excess skin and fat in the abdominal area that cannot be addressed through diet and exercise. It is important to understand that a tummy tuck is not a weight-loss solution and is not intended to treat obesity.
The Procedure
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and typically takes two to three hours. It generally involves a horizontal incision made between the pubic hairline and the belly button, along with a second incision around the belly button to free it from the surrounding tissue. The underlying abdominal muscles are then tightened, and excess skin and fat are removed. Finally, the remaining skin is smoothed over the abdomen, and the incisions are carefully closed with sutures.
